If you’re getting ready for your big move, hiring a moving service in Northridge should be on top of your to-do list. First time to hire one, though? No worries. Here’s a list of questions to help you evaluate a moving firm so you can avoid unsound choices:

Can I have your registration number?

Moving companies have a registration number issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) if they’re licensed for long-distance moves. If the company can’t seem to provide you with a USDOT number, that could be a sign that you’re hiring a rogue mover. Skip to the next company on your list.

What does the rate include?

Always be clear about the services that are included in the standard rate, says The Spruce. If you’re under a tight budget, the last thing you’ll want to hear is that you’re being charged extra for a service that you thought was already part of the package. Don’t let that happen. Clear up any misunderstandings straight off so you’ll know exactly what you’re paying for.

Are there any additional fees?

Moving companies typically charge extra if the move includes navigating stairs and elevators. That’s why it’s a good idea to inform your moving crew of any other conditions that will make the move difficult.

Can I see proof of your insurance?

Before you engage the services of a moving firm in Northridge, ask about the company’s insurance. Will it provide you with one? What will the insurance cover? Most importantly, is the company insured? Don’t just take their word for it, though. Request for the paperwork.

How much is the deposit?

Ask about the deposit beforehand. Some companies probably won’t ask for one, though it’s common enough for other firms to ask for a bit of deposit. However, if the amount is more than 20 percent of the total cost of the service, look elsewhere.
